Vinyl love: First Aid Kit “The lion’s roar”

The skinny: You would not know just by listening to their music that First Aid Kit, an indie folk duo comprised of sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg, hail from Sweden but it’s the truth. This, their sophomore release. is cleaner and crisper and more assured than their debut and filled with plenty of beautiful moments created by the sisters’ harmonies.

Standout track: “Emmylou”

Vinyl love: Asobi Seksu “Citrus”

Details: 2 x LP, Black vinyl, 180 gram, gatefold

The skinny: Asobi Seksu was the first of a number of shoegaze/dream pop revival bands that I came across in the early to mid-2000s and was perhaps the best of these. “Citrus” was the group’s sophomore release and was a thing of beauty, calling to mind both Lush and My Bloody Valentine.

Details: Black vinyl, 180 gram, 45 rpm, 30th anniversary edition

The skinny: The debut album by England’s Billy Bragg is just over 15 minutes in length but packs a blue collar, folk-punk punch. It fits quite nicely on one side of the LP so he re-recorded the songs live for side two of this 30th anniversary pressing.

Standout track: “A new england”
