Vinyl love: Elastica “Elastica”

The skinny: Elastica was formed after Justine Frischmann broke up with Suede frontman Brett Anderson and left that group. Elastica only ever released two albums before breaking up in 2001 but the only one of these ever worth discussing is the debut. There were rumours that boyfriend at the time, Damon Albarn, wrote most of the material and there were those that slagged it for sounding too much like Wire but I really loved this album for what it was. Sixteen tracks of Britpop bliss.

Vinyl love: Suede “Suede”

Details: Gatefold sleeve, Limited edition, 25th anniversary, 180 gram, Double LP, silver vinyl, Record Store Day exclusive

The skinny: Along with Blur’s “Modern life is rubbish”, Suede’s debut, self-titled LP set the groundwork and etched out the blueprints for the Britpop phenomenon of the mid-1990s. The deadly duo of Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler made for sleazy and salacious glam rock, the likes of which we will never see again. This 25th anniversary silver edition comes with 9 B-side tracks released during the era on the second disc of the set, which spells bonus, any way you slice it.

The skinny: Okay. Where do I start? How about ‘unblemished debut album by late-coming shoegazers’? How about ‘brilliant start by underrated british alt-rock band’? How about ‘a breathtaking album with a deserving 25th anniversary reissue’? Done.
