Vinyl love: Catherine Wheel “Ferment”

(Vinyl Love is a series of posts that quite simply lists, describes, and displays the pieces in my growing vinyl collection. You can bet that each record was given a spin during the drafting of each corresponding post.)

Artist: Catherine Wheel
Album Title: Ferment
Year released: 1992
Year reissued: 2017
Details: Limited edition, numbered 1096/1500, 25th anniversary, 180 gram, orange and gold vinyl

The skinny: Okay. Where do I start? How about ‘unblemished debut album by late-coming shoegazers’? How about ‘brilliant start by underrated british alt-rock band’? How about ‘a breathtaking album with a deserving 25th anniversary reissue’? Done.

Standout track: “Black metallic”

Vinyl love: The Decemberists “I’ll be your girl”

(Vinyl Love is a series of posts that quite simply lists, describes, and displays the pieces in my growing vinyl collection. You can bet that each record was given a spin during the drafting of each corresponding post.)

Artist: The Decemberists
Album Title: I’ll be your girl
Year released: 2018
Details: Gatefold sleeve, Orange vinyl, Limited edition, Autographed

The skinny: Personally, I think all those people that are listening to The Decemberists’ eighth album and saying that the band completely changed their sound, haven’t really been listening closely to the Portland-based quintet all along. Sure, there are synths and some other experimentation in their use of instruments and song structure but I’ve always though this band has always done a great job of pushing themselves forward. Also, Colin Meloy’s awesome, literate lyrics and one-of-a kind vocals are still here so longtime fans should still be pleased.

Standout track: “Severed”

Vinyl love: Phoebe Bridgers “Stranger in the alps”

(Vinyl Love is a series of posts that quite simply lists, describes, and displays the pieces in my growing vinyl collection. You can bet that each record was given a spin during the drafting of each corresponding post.)

Artist: Phoebe Bridgers
Album Title: Stranger in the alps
Year released: 2017
Details: Limited edition, lavender

The skinny: Some of you might recall this album as #10 on my Best albums of 2017 list. Phoebe Bridgers’ debut album is mostly quiet, deeply personal, literate, and almost too cool for its own good. And I love it to pieces.

Standout track: “Motion sickness”
